Ipswich School expands boarding provision with third house opening

The opening of a new boarding house at Ipswich School marks a significant expansion in the school's boarding provision, coinciding with the appointment of a new head of boarding who brings 22 years of experience from Felsted School.

Why it matters: This September, more than 40 new boarding pupils joined the school community, bringing the total number of boarders close to 100 in the 2025/26 academic year. The new facility has been designed to provide a warm, supportive and modern home-from-home environment.

The details: Ipswich School  now operates three boarding houses: Westwood Boys' House, a Victorian mansion in wooded grounds, and Anglesea Heights Girls' and Sixth Form Houses, which offer modern ensuite accommodation similar to a university hall of residence.

Boarders benefit from a supportive environment, modern facilities and the chance to make the most of the school's wide academic and co-curricular opportunities. With full and flexi boarding available, the school aims to provide flexibility for families both in the UK and overseas.

What they're saying: Sarah Barrett, Ipswich School's new head of boarding, said: "This is a wonderful opportunity for the school, and for our boarding community. The new house will enable us to offer pupils an even richer boarding experience; one that nurtures personal growth, academic achievement, and lifelong friendships."

Mrs Barrett joins the school following 22 years at Felsted School and has relocated to Ipswich with her family.

The bottom line: The expansion reflects Ipswich School's ongoing dedication to offering an outstanding boarding experience, with the new house enabling the school to accommodate growing demand for boarding places.
