Why it matters: Hyam was jailed for pushing a woman to the ground near Wherstead Road, with police using a police dog to apprehend him after he fled the scene.

The details: The incident took place in the vicinity of Wherstead Road and Croft Street on Saturday, 13 September. Police were called shortly after 14:15 to reports that a woman had been pushed to the ground by a man known to her, who had then stolen her rucksack containing keys, a purse and other personal items.

Officers attended and spoke with the victim, who was not injured. Hyam was traced on CCTV crossing Stoke Bridge and running towards the town centre.

What happened next: Officers pursued Hyam, who refused to stop despite several commands from police. He was eventually apprehended by police dog Thor and his handler, and detained.

Hyam denied a charge of robbery but pleaded guilty to assault by beating.

The bottom line: A 39-year-old Ipswich man is now serving 15 weeks behind bars after assaulting a woman in September, with quick police work and a police dog helping to secure his arrest.
