How Ipswich Town used advanced data analytics to sign keeper Muric

The Blues leveraged advanced, goalie-specific data analytics to scout and sign goalkeeper Arijanet Muric from Burnley.

The big picture: Ipswich Town partnered with Goalkeeper.com, using their data intelligence services to identify a goalkeeper whose skills best matched their playing style and Premier League demands.

Goalkeeper Muric was signed from Burnley as Town's number one for their first season back in the Premier League

How they did it:

  • They utilised Goalkeeper.com's 'Goalkeeper Suitability Index' to match Muric's profile with Ipswich's playing style.

  • Analysed data on shot patterns and goal sources typical in the Premier League.

  • Applied the 'Overall Goalkeeper Value' (OGV) metric to optimise their decision-making.

What they said: Rene Gilmartin, Head of Goalkeeping at Ipswich Town, said: "Using Goalkeeper.com data, we began to learn more about goalkeepers that we didn't already know of in different leagues. That was a really important cross-reference for me."

Gilmartin added: "Goalkeeper.com took the profile of the type of goalkeeper and the characteristics we wanted in our goalkeeper and were able to find options that might be best at these actions we often face."

The impact: This data-driven approach allowed Ipswich to identify goalkeepers suited to Premier League challenges and decide which goalkeepers to pursue.

What's next: Ipswich will continue to use Goalkeeper.com's data intelligence throughout the coming seasons to monitor the performance of their keepers and scout new talent as they aim to establish themselves in the Premier League.
