Why it matters: Hafez Ashraf Uddin exploited his position of trust as a religious teacher to abuse vulnerable children over more than a decade.
Uddin, of Wivenhoe Road, Barking in London, but who taught in Ipswich during the period of the offences, was convicted at Ipswich Crown Court on Thursday following a trial lasting almost four weeks.
The details: The former teacher faced 22 charges in total relating to seven girls, being found guilty of 13 offences and not guilty of nine others.
The offences included putting his hand inside one victim's trousers and multiple incidents of touching or squeezing the girls' breasts.
Four of the charges were multiple offending counts, meaning each single charge comprised at least five separate assaults. The total number of individual assaults is at least 29.
What's next: Uddin has been remanded in custody pending sentencing at Ipswich Crown Court on Monday, 28 July.
Suffolk Police recognises the impact this case will have on the community Uddin served, and officers have been liaising with partners to ensure anyone with concerns can access advice and specialist support.
What they're saying: Further reports can be made to the South Safeguarding Investigation Unit via 101, quoting Operation Picton and reference 37/CJ/667/18, or through the Suffolk Police website.
Support for victims is available through The Ferns Independent Sexual Violence Advisor Service and Survivors in Transition.
The bottom line: A trusted religious figure who abused his position to harm children over 14 years has been brought to justice, with support available for anyone affected by his crimes.
