Cumberland Towers gets dedicated safety engagement plan

As Ipswich's only council-owned high-rise flats, Cumberland Towers requires a specific resident strategy under new building safety regulations.

Why it matters: The Building Safety Regulator requires all high-rise council housing to have dedicated engagement strategies to ensure residents are kept informed about safety matters affecting their homes.

What's happening: Ipswich Borough Council's Executive will consider the new Residents Engagement Strategy on Tuesday, 10 June. The strategy has been developed in partnership with Cumberland Towers residents and will be submitted to the Building Safety Regulator.

The bigger picture: Cumberland Towers is the only high-rise residential building owned by the council, making it the only council housing required to have this type of dedicated strategy under the Building Safety Act.

What they're saying: "As the Council's only high-rise residential building, Cumberland Towers has had a dedicated Residents Engagement Strategy developed in line with the Building Safety Act," says Councillor Alasdair Ross, Ipswich Borough Council Portfolio Holder for Housing.

"This strategy is an important component of ensuring that residents at Cumberland Towers are safe and it plays a key role in ensuring the ongoing safety and reassurance of all who call Cumberland Towers home."

The bottom line: The strategy represents a collaborative approach between the council and residents to meet new building safety requirements whilst ensuring those living in Cumberland Towers remain informed and involved in decisions affecting their building's safety.
