Crown Street Car Park now open 24 hours a day

Ipswich Borough Council has made Crown Street Car Park permanently available round the clock following a successful trial, aiming to support the town's night-time economy and provide greater flexibility for visitors.

Crown Car Park in Ipswich

Why it matters: The move provides secure, monitored parking just minutes from the town centre at any time, making it easier for residents and visitors to enjoy Ipswich's shops, restaurants, theatres and entertainment venues.

The details: The car park offers undercover, well-lit parking in a monitored environment with convenient access to the town centre. EV charging facilities are also available, supporting more sustainable travel choices.

The bigger picture: The extended hours form part of the council's commitment to boost Ipswich's night-time economy and create a more vibrant town centre. The decision reflects priorities set out in Ipswich Borough Council's Corporate Strategy to ensure the town centre is a great place to live, work and visit.

What they're saying: Councillor Neil MacDonald, leader of Ipswich Borough Council, said: "Making Crown Street Car Park available 24/7 is an important step in supporting Ipswich's growing night-time economy. It means more convenience, more flexibility, and greater peace of mind for anyone visiting or working in the town centre – day or night."

The bottom line: Following a successful trial, Crown Street Car Park's permanent 24-hour opening provides Ipswich with more accessible parking to support its evening economy and town centre vitality.
