Why it matters: Backed by the UK government, the awards celebrate organisations demonstrating excellence in skills development, social mobility and workforce growth. Entries undergo a rigorous judging process led by industry and policy experts, making this recognition a significant milestone for SMEs in professional services.

The details: The judging panel highlighted the scale of delivery, quality of pastoral and professional support, and the impressive contribution apprentices are already making, praising these outcomes as "exceptional" for a programme still in its early stages.

The award reflects the firm's commitment to widening access to the legal profession for talented people from all backgrounds, based on potential rather than privilege.

What they're saying: Chief executive Nick Attwell  said: "Winning the National Apprenticeship and Skills Award 2025 is an incredible achievement and reflects the dedication of so many people across our firm. We set out to create a programme that offers exceptional support, real responsibility and a genuine alternative route into the legal profession, and we are proud to see our apprentices already making a measurable impact. This award strengthens our resolve to continue building pathways into law for individuals from all backgrounds."

Head of training and development Charlotte Reason added: "This award means a great deal to everyone at Attwells. It truly is a team achievement. At the heart of our programme are our apprentices, who work incredibly hard, contribute so much to the firm, and champion apprenticeships within our community. I'm excited to continue developing a structured programme and to see each of our apprentices thrive and succeed."

What's next: Attwells will speak at industry events, engage with policymakers at government roundtables and contribute to strategic discussions shaping apprenticeship delivery in legal services.

Applications for the firm's apprenticeship programme are now open, offering structured training, professional mentoring and ongoing support.

The bottom line: Attwells' national recognition demonstrates that creating genuine alternative pathways into law delivers measurable results, and aspiring legal professionals can now apply to join the award-winning programme.
