Ann Summers pulls out of Ipswich town centre
The lingerie and adult retailer will shut its Tavern Street store at the end of the month, putting a bit of a dampener on what has been a strong few weeks for Ipswich's high street, with several new openings.
The details: Ann Summers has been present in the town centre for several years, initially operating from Westgate Street before moving to its current Tavern Street location in August 2022. The store took over the former Paper Chase premises following that retailer's closure.
Signs displayed in the shop windows confirm the closure date, stating that all stock must be sold before the doors close for the final time.
The bigger picture: The retailer has around 88 stores across the UK and Ireland. No reason has been given for the Ipswich branch's closure.
What's next: The store will continue trading as normal until 1 August, giving customers the opportunity to purchase remaining stock at discounted prices during the closing-down period.
The bottom line: The departure puts a bit of a dampener on what has been a strong period of regeneration for Ipswich's high street, with several new openings in recent weeks, including Jamaica Blue in the former Grimwades building, vegan restaurant Hanks on Thoroughfare and fashion retailer Utopia in the former Bodyshop premises on Tavern Street.
