Anglia Retail Park to get 24 new EV chargers

Anglia Retail Park is set to nearly triple its electric vehicle charging capacity, with 24 new chargers to be installed alongside the Lidl store.

Why it matters: The expansion will bring the site's total electric vehicle (EV) charging capacity to 36 points, increasing options for the growing number of EV drivers in Ipswich.

The details: The new chargers will be delivered by Ipswich Borough Assets (IBA), a company wholly owned by Ipswich Borough Council, and will complement the 12 Tesla fast chargers installed at the site in early 2024.

The installation was included within the planning application for the recently opened Lidl GB store – a development that has also created around 40 jobs and expanded local shopping options.

The bigger picture: The chargers form part of IBA's wider sustainability commitment at the retail park, which also includes new hedgerow and tree planting.

What they're saying: Colin Kreidewolf, chair of Ipswich Borough Assets, said: "By providing faster and more convenient charging solutions, we contribute to the widespread adoption of electric vehicles, ushering in a cleaner and greener future, as well as attracting visitors to the retail park by offering motorists more choice."

David Furnell, of Evlution, the supplier and installer of the new chargers, added: "We're proud to support Ipswich Borough Assets in delivering high-quality, future-ready EV charging for the community. By expanding reliable charging infrastructure at Anglia Retail Park, we're helping make sustainable travel more accessible and convenient for everyone."

The bottom line: The 24 new chargers will significantly expand Ipswich's EV charging infrastructure, supporting the town's transition to cleaner travel as electric vehicle ownership continues to grow.
